Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) Participant Course

    Course Description

    The Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) Participant Course is a seven-hour course that is available in a self-directed online format through the Justice Learning Centre web site. The purpose of this alternate delivery course is to provide a training option for people who are unable to attend face-to-face course training sessions. The same course content presented in the face-to-face course is presented through the alternate delivery course. Course activities have been modified to ensure a reasonable substitution of learning opportunities and consistent evaluation mechanisms for both course delivery formats.

    Course Overview

    The course content has been broken down into eight main sections. These sections include:

    • Section 1: Overview of the YCJA
    • Section 2: The Case of Billy James - Extrajudicial Measures
    • Section 3: The Case of Steve Chong and Jason Dunlop- Youth Sentences, Statements
    • Section 4: The Case of Roberta Hill – Conferences, Victims Services, Referrals to Child Welfare, Pre-Trial Detention
    • Section 5: The Case of Jean Marquette – Adult Sentences, IRCS, Pre-Sentence Reports, Reintegration, Publication
    • Section 6: Aboriginal Issues
    • Section 7: Restorative Justice Program and Youth Justice Act (N.S.)
    • Section 8: Finishing the Course
